The Kimmel School faculty excel in many areas, including automation, robotics, optoelectronics, lasers, computer graphics, construction management, telecommunications, and product design.
The Kimmel School has benefited from external funding of projects such as grants from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
The Kimmel School of Construction Management and Technology is a partner with the Carolinas MicroOptics Triangle, a collaboration of WCU, UNC-Charlotte, and Clemson University. The Kimmel School also offers a joint degree with UNC-Charlotte through the electrical engineering program.
The Kimmel School of Construction Management and Technology extends past the borders of Western’s Cullowhee campus, offering courses to adult learners in Asheville, Spindale, and the Catawba region. Typical classes include courses like Quality Systems, Engineering Analysis, Engineering Logistics, Polymer Technology, Project Management, and Rapid Prototyping.
