WCU is a University of North Carolina Campus
Art History Program
The B.A. with an emphasis in art history is offered and taught as an essential accompaniment to serious work in the studio and the computer lab. Intellectual artistic issues of the past and present are considered as part of the process of developing critical thinking. The art of other cultures and periods are studied to expand the student's conscious artistic compass. The ability to describe, analyze, and to read works of art in different and even contradictory directions is a crucial element in the student's evolution into an artist.
Art history majors are required to attain an intermediate level of proficiency in a foreign language. Majors are encouraged to study abroad and also to visit art galleries and major exhibitions in America. Art history can be studied as a principal part of a Humanities major, in combination with several other subjects.
