Why? Unlike loans, scholarships don’t have to be repaid, and many scholarships are merit based, which means you don’t need to demonstrate financial need in order to be considered. In fact, there may be scholarships that recognize achievement in areas in which you already excel, such as athletics, leadership, or the arts.
Each year, the university awards nearly $1 million in merit-based scholarships. Many more private scholarships are provided through the university by generous donors.
You should also be sure research the many other scholarship opportunities available from outside the university, including state-sponsored awards and scholarships sponsored by corporations and civic organizations.
